Friends of mine sent me four pictures that I loved and was delighted to recieve.
There was a slight problem though - it was the size of the pictures !!
Four pictures - over 4 MegaBytes - even with BroadBand, a significant time to download.
Three Digital Camera pictures Quarter of a MegabByte each, Stunning Wedding pic, 3.5 MegaByte
See the bottom of the page for 'Lesson to be learned'
Picture above is as supplied
Quarter of a MegaByte
Would take a long time to download on a DialUp connection
Picture above is as supplied, but the Browser is aked to re-size it to 426 pixels wide
Quarter of a MegaByte
Would take a long time to download on a DialUp connection
Would use Power and Time on the Local, Client, PC to do the re-sizing
Picture above was opened in PaintShopPro (but any Picture processing program would do just as well)
Re-sized to 426 pixels wide and saved as JPG file (could have been digitally enhanced at the same time (but I didnt)
35 KiloBytes - tiny by comparison
Would take almost no time to download, even on a DialUp connection
Suggestion
- If it is to be printed, the original picture is the best;
- If it is to be displayed on a PC, re-size it - even to one pixel less, the size will be reduced;
- If you are EMailing, send the small ones and offer to send the original if recipent requests them;
- Simple aint it - and it is good manners not to send humongus EMails unless it has be agreed with the recipient first.
- Thank you folks !!
